This short story was based on three randomly chosen Rory’s Story Cubes (one from each of the sets of Original, Voyages and Actions). The cubes I ended up with were:
- Shooting Star
- Rocket Crashing and Saturn
- Circus Tent
Here is my story:
Once upon an evening above a small remote village, the sky was beautifully clear. Some people came out of their houses to watch the thousands of stars twinkling above. Suddenly, a shooting star appeared, which made everyone very happy, ooh-ing and aah-ing with delight. This was, however, no ordinary shooting star. It seemed to turn, and started getting brighter and brighter, and bigger and bigger. It was coming towards the increasingly frightened people looking at it. Suddenly, the shooting star disappeared behind the big hill at the edge of town. There was an giant explosion. Everyone, including those who were still indoors, rushed up the hill. When they reached the top, they looked down, expecting to see a giant crater. When they saw what was there, they were both puzzled and delighted. There wasn’t a big crater – instead, there was a big circus tent, surrounded by robotic jugglers, clowns and alien animals. There was a large many-tentacled alien with a megaphone shouting, “roll up, roll up for the greatest show in the universe!” It was a circus, a space circus. It looked fun, so the whole town went to the show, and everyone enjoyed it immensely. The next day, the circus packed it self up, and, using an enormous red rocket, blasted off into space, looking for the next place to perform their act.
